Staying Healthy at UNG:
Health Insurance, Health Fees and Vaccines
Health insurance is mandatory for international students at UNG. The health care system in the US is complex and may be very different from what you are accustomed to in your home country. It is customary for everyone in the US to purchase health insurance, which pays for a portion of expenses incurred in the event of an illness or injury. Medical care in the US is expensive and health insurance is necessary to keep the costs down.
International students at UNG will be automatically enrolled for a specific international student health insurance plan. The cost of the insurance will be placed on your student bill. The insurance is billed twice per year, once for fall semester and once for spring/summer semester.
If you already have health insurance and want to waive out of the mandatory insurance, you will need to complete a waiver. You will receive further information about the waiver directly before your first semester at UNG.
You can learn more about the current cost of the insurance and the waiver process by visiting the Center for Global Engagement web site: www.ung.edu/cge
Located on the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses. Student Health Services is your first place
for non-emergency medical care. There is
a staff of doctors and nurses available to assist you with your health needs. For additional information on UNG’s Student
Health Services please visit their website (ung.edu/student-health-services).
All currently enrolled UNG students pay a student health fee to access Student Health Services. The fee will be automatically billed to your student account when you enroll each semester. You can find out more about this fee along with others here: https://ung.edu/business-office/tuition-and-fees/index.php
All new students (freshman, transfers, and others) attending regularly scheduled classes or receiving resident credit will be required to submit a Certificate of Immunization prior to attending classes. Required vaccinations to provide proof of immunity are measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria and, if 18 years of age or less at the time of classes, hepatitis B.
It would be most convenient for you if you took care of these vaccinations while in your home country prior to starting your first semester at UNG.
